Rest as Resistance: The Next Chapter for Black Girl Health Con

Dear BGHC Community,

After thoughtful consideration and deep reflection, we’ve decided not to host Black Girl Health Con this year.

This was not an easy choice. Black Girl Health Con has always been more than an event. Over the past two years, it’s been a space of joy, learning, healing, and sisterhood. But as we continue to grow and expand, we’re taking this year to pause, recalibrate, and as always build with intention.

We also want to recognize that this pause comes at a time when federal and state-level dysfunction has made community-centered work harder to sustain across the country, especially for smaller organizations with limited resources and infinite heart. Still, we remain committed to closing the gaps and creating spaces where communities are celebrated for their collective wisdom, and have access to affirming and responsive care and connection.

This year, we’re using this pause to strengthen and expand the core of our ecosystem by:

  • Expanding and deepening access to our wellness and health initiatives.

  • Continuing to build capacity and our collective work within community.

  • Imagining and building what the next evolution of Black Girl Health Con can look like.

We know many of you were looking forward to gathering this year, and we feel that too. Deeply. (We’ve gotten the emails and calls!) But trust, this isn’t goodbye, it’s simply a moment of rest. The energy, the connection, the movement, it’s all still here.

And as we take this pause to rest and rebuild, we’re reminded that community care is a shared practice. There are so many ways to walk alongside us as we grow into this next chapter:

  • 🌿 Become a Monthly Sustainer: Join our circle of recurring donors to help us plan and grow year-round. bit.ly/SupportBGHC

  • 🤝 Workplace or Corporate Giving: Ask your employer about matching gifts or sponsorship opportunities. Email: amarks@blackgirlhealthcollective.org

  • 🎁 In-Kind Support: Contribute goods, services, or expertise that help us sustain our community programs and increase knowledge, access, or resources in community.

  • 📣 Share Our Work: Follow, repost, and tag us on social media to amplify our message and connect more people to mission.

  • 🪴 Spread Our Resources: Forward this message, share our Micro-Learnings, events, and tell others about BGHC’s programs.

However you choose to give time, energy, voice, or resources, you’re partnering with us to build an ecosystem of care, driven by community.

In the meantime, stay connected and stay tuned! We’ve got some amazing things on the horizon, and you won’t want to miss out.

In love and rest,

The Black Girl Health Collective
