Your Care. Your Voice. Your Rights.

Knowing your rights in healthcare matters. But knowing what to do when something does not feel right, where to report a concern, or how to advocate for yourself or someone you love can be much harder.

That is why the Black Girl Health Collective created the Delaware Know Your Rights Toolkit, a free, community-rooted resource designed to help you better understand your rights and navigate the healthcare system with more information in your hands.

Knowing your rights is part of caring for your health.

The toolkit starts with the basics: your rights as a patient. That includes informed consent, the right to refuse care, access to your medical records, privacy, language access, freedom from discrimination, and the right to file a complaint when something goes wrong.

But we did not want to stop at telling you that you have rights.

The toolkit also helps you figure out what to do next.

You can find information about what concerns can be reported, how to file a complaint, who to contact at Delaware hospitals, and where to turn for concerns involving insurance, unsafe care, discrimination, privacy, or licensed healthcare professionals.

There are also resources specifically for birthing people, caregivers, and families, along with tools for finding healthcare and community support in Delaware.

Because access is more than getting through the door.

At BGHC, we believe access to care also means having the information you need to ask questions, understand your options, speak up when something does not feel right, and make informed decisions about your health.

You should not have to already know how the healthcare system works to advocate for yourself within it.

The Delaware Know Your Rights Toolkit was built to give you somewhere to start.

Save it. Share it with someone you love. Come back to it when you need it.
